Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Today was quite an eventful day. We started how it always does waking up at around 6:30 and then we were off to Copper Mine National Park. We dinghied to shore and caught rides on Taxis up to the mine where we met up with the other boat, Two Ghosts. It is nice to have a whole other group of people to work with throughout the trip because it gives us the opportunity to meet even more people, not just the ones on our catamaran. We hiked through huge rocks which were fun, and the view of the ocean was amazing. As we proceeded we made it down to a beach near the rocks where we searched for trash, however, that beach was relatively clean. After that, we walked up the road to another beach and again, cleaned up trash. It was crazy to see that there was a whole jet ski washed up on shore and the amount of trash that had been washed up on shore. It was also very interesting to learn about the seven different types of plastic and how each one of them affects the environment. After a long morning of work, we were able to get our phones back and get free time to explore Spanish Town. I personally really enjoyed getting my phone back because it was great to get a chance to call my family and friends to check in and see how things are going back home. Most of the students got lunch at The Bath and Turtle, but after we had to regroup back at the catamaran where Darius took a long and dreamy nap on the blue lagoon. Some Beez rafted with Two Ghosts, and we all hung out and grilled on our boats. It was a lot of fun, and all the Go Beyond students were able to get together and get to know each other without any work involved. Now we are all back on our boat, and we are circled around about to play some blackjack and slowly let the day come to a close.
