Location: The Bight, Norman Island

After a hot and cramped first night of sleeping, we woke up early and prepared for the day. I received many birthday wishes from everyone on the boat, which was very nice. After getting changed, both the GoBeyond and ActionQuest programs met up to discuss the trip and what to expect from our voyages. We got to hear from the leader of the programs, Mike, as he got us ready for days ahead and wished me a happy birthday as well. After the meeting, we set sail for the caves. For the day, I was assigned the position of skipper, and I was able to sail the boat. At first, it was challenging, but I got the hang of it the longer I steered. As we were sailing, I took in the natural beauty of the BVI. I couldn’t believe how clear and blue the water was. It really was amazing. After anchoring our boat, we began the swim test to make sure we were able to handle the trip. After everyone passed, we jumped on to the dinghy and headed to the caves. After we arrived, we put on our snorkel gear and jumped in the water. Thousands of fish were swimming just below our feet, which is something I had never seen before. As we were going back to the boat, we spotted a huge sea turtle as it was diving in the water. Ultimately, the day was filled with completely new and amazing experiences that I can’t wait to try again in the days ahead.
