Location: Sydney, Australia
Today we finally got to see the images you imagine when you think of Australia: the Sydney Opera House and the Harbor Bridge. After a later than usual wakeup call, we headed to the bus stop to ride into Sydney. We started the day at The Rocks, where we explored the older part of the Australian town. After some of us indulged in delicious mochas and croissants, we sat by the Harbor Bridge and enjoyed the beautiful view. We then walked towards the Opera House, where we got an in depth tour of the building and learned about the history of how it was built. The 50-year old buildings were originally supposed to take three years and 7 million dollars to build. Instead, it took 16 years and over 100 million! After exploring the Opera House, we walked through in the Botanical Gardens and sat in the grass while we ate our lunch of sandwiches and chips. We finished off the jam-packed day with a rugby match, where we watched the West Sydney Tigers take on their local rivals the Panthers, and we feasted on meat pies – a traditional Australian meal – for dinner. We are sad to be leaving Sydney already tomorrow, but are excited to be heading north for our next adventure of sailing through the beautiful Whitsunday Islands!
