Location: Marina Cay
Today was our first full day in the British Virgin Islands. We started our day with a bowl of cereal for breakfast at the dock with all of the other boats including Action Quest and Seamester. Soon after breakfast, it started dumping rain and soaked our boat and everything that was outside! The boys left their hatch open and all of the rain-soaked their sheets and pillows!! We waited for the bad weather to pass and then went to have a dock talk with Mike before departing on our journey. It took a while for all the boats to depart and since we were the first boat on the dock, we were the last to leave. Once we left, I sat on the trampoline with the girls on the boat, while we attempted to start our tan on the trip. The waves became rough after leaving the Marina and were soaked by waves that came through the trampoline!! We stopped and went to Peter Island with two of the other Go Beyond groups that were also working on reconstructing the BVI after Irma. One of the leaders of the other boat told us all about Peter Island and what it used to be like before the storm destroyed almost all of the houses and shops on it. After we left the island, we went back to our boats to do the swim test. Our next plan for the day after our test was to sail to a new marina pretty far away. Once we arrived, we showered in the salt water, then rinsed off with fresh, which felt amazing after our salty hair from our earlier swim. We ended our night with Sloppy Joe’s for dinner and preparing for the rains and winds to hit tomorrow.
