Location: West End, Tortola

It’s with a heavy heart that we return to West End for the end of this session. It’s been an amazing three weeks with an incredible group of shipmates and we the staff, for one, have had the best time. Here are some of my favorite moments from the last few days. Two days ago at Peter Island, we moored the two Go Beyond boats near each other and Rocco created a makeshift swimming pen by tying dock lines and fenders together between the boats. After completing the task, he proceeded to ride the fenders and practice his balance. Later that day Natalie took us out for a spin in Shadow and showed off her dinghy driving skills. Another highlight of mine was completing a playground and sandbox with the Rebuilding Island life crew- Case, Adam, Colin, Mauritius, and Daniel. These guys did some awesome work putting together a playground, and at the end of the day, we got to watch the local students play on them. Another favorite memory of mine was watching Alex and Ana race each other to pull in the lines as we dropped a mooring ball. Although it was a close competition with a lot of back and forth, Ana beat Alex by just a few seconds. We also would have struggled to sail the boat without Evan’s help on pretty much every task- by the end of the session he can sail better than I can! This session we didn’t get to spend a huge amount of time with local children because they’re still in school, but we did get to hang out with a few and Izzy was incredible at helping them feel comfortable and getting to know them. All in all, it was a great time, and we’re going to miss having all the shipmates on Shazam with us.
