Below is our anticipated schedule of activities. The group will have limited access to the internet over the course of the program. While we understand families are eager for news, we ask for patience as our staff’s energy is focused on the students and the program at hand. Please do not call our office regarding these trip logs, as the office does not control the postings or the content of the updates. Thanks very much for your understanding!

Day 1 (July 8) – Fly day; Student arrival and move into Country Inn; Welcome and orientation session from GoBeyond and the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation

Day 2 (July 9) – Morning community service orientation at La Carpio including community walkthrough and meeting of local residents; Afternoon visit to the Juan Sanchez indigenous site and demonstrations

Day 3 (July 10) – Community service in La Carpio (replacing tin walls with brick walls, projects with children, light construction); Evening video (Voces Inocentes) and discussion groups

Day 4 (July 11) – Community service in La Carpio (cont.)

 

 

Day 5 (July 12) – Community service at “La Finca,” CRHF retreat center (property maintenance and gardening); Afternoon chocolate tour and demonstrations

Day 6 to 7 (July 13 to 14) – Departure for the Atlantic coast; Visit and service work with the Amubri and Cabecar Indigenous Reserves

Day 8 to 9 (July 15 to 16) – Rio Tropicales whitewater rafting and zip-lining trip; Return to Central Valley

Day 10 (July 17) – Community service in La Carpio (cont.); Preparation for art and dance festival

Day 11 (July 18) – Community service in La Carpio (cont.); Afternoon service in San Jose (preparing and delivering hot lunches for the homeless); Souvenir shopping and exploration in the city

Day 12 (July 19) – Community service in La Carpio (cont.); Afternoon visit and demonstrations at the Doka coffee plantation

Day 13 to 14 (July 20 to 21) – Community service with La Carpio children (facilitating nature hikes and farming activities at La Finca)

Day 15 to 16 (July 22 to 23) – Departure for the Pacific Coast; Wildlife viewing, swimming and rainforest visit; Hiking; Service at the CRHF’s Family Well Being Center

Day 17 (July 24) – Return to the Central Valley; Student-led La Carpio kids fair/camp day (arts/crafts festival); Final activities and dinner with homestay families

Day 18 to 19 (July 25 to 26) – Arenal Volcano and hot springs visit; Horseback riding; Begin closing program and reflection activities

Day 20 (July 27) – Final community service project with Nicaraguan refugees (small construction and playing with the children); Evening GoBeyond closing program

Day 21 (July 28) – Fly day
