Location: La Carpio and Dos Palmas Hotel

Today was another day of learning and hard work for the young Lifeworkers. After a lovely breakfast of fruits, eggs, bread, and gallo pinto, a traditional Costa Rican breakfast item, the group made their way to La Carpio bright and early.

Upon arrival, the group received a rundown of the day from Gail, the founder and leader of the humanitarian society in La Carpio. Lifeworkers made their way to the library and school. Once there, they split up into groups and either painted local houses or began work on the new mural, which is located on the side of the building.

When their lunch break finished, the Lifeworkers immediately returned to work by spending time with children, cleaning the school’s classroom, or assembling new desks. The children were shy at first but soon warmed up to the group through singing songs, playing games, and reading books.

The men who brought in the new desks were patient and helpful while Lifeworkers learned how to handle a power drill. Eventually, the group let the professionals do their jobs.

When the workday finished, Gail surprised the group with local cookie and ice cream sandwiches as a reward for all of their hard work and dedication. The day ended with a stress relieving game of volleyball at the hotel.

So far, the trip has had a great start and has already provided numerous memories for the group and counselors. At this rate, the Lifeworkers are sure to have an amazing trip and make a difference in Costa Rica.
