Location: Cuzco, Peru
We split up into two groups. Our group, (Justin, Emma, JW, Abby, Sofia, Tessa, Diane, and Lina) went to Casa Mantay, which is the home for adolescent mothers. Once we got there, we split up the tasks. Some continued working in the garden, others cooked, and one went to the nursery. We worked together with the mothers, who assisted us in completing these tasks. They were very open with us. After our lunch, we played soccer with the mothers. The mothers were ecstatic. We also bonded through playing guitar and singing. We loved how despite our language barrier, we all were able to work together and have a good time. Inevitably, the work we did (and will do) won’t be easy, but it is unbelievably rewarding.
