Today we went to St. Teresa’s orphanage, where we faced unexpected challenges and an overall eye-opening experience. Half of us cared for younger kids with disabilities by feeding them, brushing their teeth, cleaning their clothes, and putting them to bed. We also got the chance to assist medical professionals with physical therapy sessions. The other half of the group engaged with older orphans. We spent our time coloring with them, playing intense soccer matches, and just listening to their stories. A few of us talked with a man named Francisco, who was alone before moving into Santa Teresa’s. We helped teach him some English, including colors and common phrases. Whether we were helping the younger or older orphans, we left appreciating how fortunate we are. The experience has given us a broader perspective on life.
