Waking up on deck to the sunrise this morning was a lovely reminder that I was on a boat in the Caribbean. I was the skipper today which was nerve racking as we set off, considering this was practically my first time steering. After a while I felt confident steering the wheel independently, it was great fun to do so. Whilst I was up on the power tower, others put up and down the jib and mainsail and also tacked the boat. Together, we reached our destination where we anchored. All of us then hopped into the dinghies and went snorkeling off the nearby shore. The most interesting thing I saw was a school of squid; some of my shipmates even saw a barracuda! This was an amazing start to the program and I cannot wait for tomorrow.
