Location: Sandy Spit

Today started as one of the most depressing days of the trip, and then later transitioned into an extremely memorable and exciting day. Our shipmate, Jack C, unfortunately had to depart from the BVI at four in the morning in order to travel back to New York City to attend his mother‘s wedding. After a sorrowful and somber good-bye, we eventually motored to Great Harbor where we picked up the kids from the Jost Van Dyke Preservation Society. Since there were only twelve kids who were going to come aboard our boat, we were given the opportunity to buddy up with a single kid and form close bonds with the children. We swam, turtle-tagged, snorkeled and played with the children throughout the majority of the day, and due to the jubilant attitudes of the students and the willingness of all the shipmates to gladly participate, time seemed to fly. Although no turtles were spotted, this day will remain as one of the best days of the trip in the minds of many.
