Location: West End, Tortola
The boats are prepared, and the staff of Lifeworks BVI is ready for our third and final session of the summer! This session Elliot, Anna and I (David) will be sailing together on Kes Kat. After two incredible sessions, we feel like we’ve got our act together and are really on top of our game for this session. We have a great lineup of projects this session, which we are certain our students will love. We’ll be doing some turtle tagging and hopefully will raise our total of the summer much higher than it’s a current count of 20! We’re also excited to head out to Anegada and spend some time on one of the less visited but arguably unique islands in the whole territory. Also in our schedule is some time with island students from the Jost Van Dyke Preservation Society and many other fun projects! We honestly can’t wait for this session to get underway!
We look forward to meeting all our new shipmates and having a great 17 days with them.
Here’s an introduction to the staff of Kes Kat:
Elliot: skipper
Elliot was born in Southern California and has since lived in North Carolina, Virginia, and Florida, where he currently resides. While a student at New College of Florida, Elliot spent his spring semester with Sea|mester and sailed throughout the Caribbean on S/Y Argo. Elliot joined ActionQuest in 2011 and works as a captain and program director with both the ActionQuest and Lifeworks BVI programs. Elliot loves traveling and meeting new people, and is ecstatic to have a profession that allows him to do both.
Anna: mate
Anna is from small-town Siler City, North Carolina, and graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Marine Sciences. She was a shipmate on ActionQuest for two summers and a student on Sea|mester, sailing Argo from the BVI to Tahiti in the spring of 2013. She then headed to the BVI for her first summer working for Lifeworks and ActionQuest. She has her MCA Master of Yachts Limited and is a PADI Rescue Diver. After working with REEF Environmental Education Foundation in the Florida Keys this past winter, she is excited to come back to Lifeworks for another summer!
David: mate
David was born in Louisiana but spent most of his life in New Jersey, where he currently attends Princeton University. David has loved sailing since he was nine and has been an avid diver since the age of 10. He was introduced to ActionQuest when he was 13. Since then he has spent several summers as a shipmate with AQ in the BVIs, one on S/Y Argo in the Mediterranean, and one with Lifeworks International in Ecuador. David just finished his first year of college and is looking forward to his second year working with Lifeworks in the BVIs.
