Author: Sydney Location: Ollantaytambo – Lares Today we started by waking up early to begin our drive to Lares, where we would begin our four-day hike down the trail. We had a small hiccup which resulted in Julia and James staying back from our journey. We all got on a huge bus and began the 3-hour drive. Halfway through, we stopped at a town and went into the local market to look for snacks to buy for our hike. We all piled back onto the bus and drove to the hot springs where we would start our trek. Finally, we got to the hot springs, surprised by the yellow color of the water. There is sulfur in the water which results in the yellow color. The water was silky and warm. After our dip in the springs, we had a nice picnic lunch on the “veranda.” We got a quick taste of how the rest of our meals on the hike would be, really nice. Soon, Ronald called us all down, and we began the hike. The beginning was hard, but in 2 1/2 hours, we made it to the campsite. After a successful first day of hiking, we all came together for tea time, dinner, and fun group bonding by the river.
