Location: Aguas Calientes
After starting our day with a late breakfast, the group headed to the train station to hop on a train headed for Aguas Calientes. Aguas Calientes is known for its hot springs and is the town you must go through to get to Machu Picchu. In fact, some people are attempting to change the name to Machu Picchu Pueblo. After settling into the hotel, we went out for lunch and then watched Peru play in the Copa America final in the town square. Supporters were parading in the streets, and Peruanos were still pleased with finishing the tournament in 2nd, even if they (and we) would have preferred them to win. We then went back to the hotel to change for the hot springs. The hot springs were nice and relaxing and matched with a beautiful setting, in the jungle. We finished off the evening with a fun dinner at a local restaurant and were serenaded by a Peruvian harp player.
