We started our day bright and bushy eyed at 630 AM; everyone was a little slumped at breakfast, however, the students of preserving paradise and rebuilding island life had an exciting day ahead of them. Today we put our turtle catching skills to the test by using a strategy called ‘rodeo.’ Thanks to the help of each crew we caught a total of six green turtles, quite honestly, catching is much easier said than done. After the students brought them ashore, we took turns taking measurements, documenting data, and providing the resting turtles with light saltwater washes. We were at the docks for quite some time, so it was good to catch up on some reading. Also, goldfish and raisins got us through our exhausting afternoon. The best part was releasing the turtles back to their warm, aqua blue home knowing we were contributing to something great.
