Location: Sidney's, Jost van Dyke
We woke up and sailed to Jost van Dyke. Once we arrived, we meet with some people who are apart of the Jost van Dyke Preservation Society. We also got a chance to hear some stories from Foxy, the man who helped create tourism on the island. After that, we went with Foxy’s daughter, Justine, to the garden they are building for the youth that lives there. We cleared lots of rock and trees to make the area farmable. After working for a few hours, we went to have lunch at Foxy’s grill then set to the beach to have a cleanup. Half of the group walked the beach, and my group snorkeled to pick up trash. We found so much garbage like cups, bottles, bags and even an anchor. After we finished the cleanup, we wrote down everything we found Ocean Conservancy trash collection sheet. The most significant amount of anything we saw was plastic cups. After that, we sailed to a new anchorage for an enjoyable night of beach BBQ at Sydney’s Peace & Love.
