Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Today we had a peaceful wake up at around 6:30 in Jost Van Dyke. After a quick breakfast of cereal, we motored over to Little Jost where we began our seagrass expedition, while Rebuilding Island Life went to the only school on Jost Van Dyke to paint. Both boats combined into three groups, and we started to record data on the different types of seagrass, their percentages, and the algae on the seagrass. After a rocky beginning, we eventually got it and collected enough data to turn in to Jost Van Dyke Preservation Society. While the water was murky, and shoes were lost, it ended up being a very rewarding experience. Post lunch, we took a small hike to the Bubbly Pool, where we saw an amazing view, and all got to play and talk in the water together. Then, we motored to Sandy Spit where we snorkeled with a goal to find Lion Fish. Unfortunately, none were spotted, but it ended up okay because we got to see other amazing fish and views from down below. For dinner, we got to enjoy a barbecue that contained hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta salad, beans, and potato salad with all the other Go Beyond and Action Quest students. Finally, we ended the night with a documentary about B.V.I and brownies (Thank you, Sofia and Natalie)!
