Location: Cairns

This morning we went to the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park to learn about the culture of the local Aboriginal Australians. We watched a short documentary outlining their history than were led through a series of presentations. We watched some traditional dancing, and our guide showed us how to throw boomerangs and to play the didgeridoo. After touring the facility, we took a taxi to a market, and everybody got lunch and crêpes. We walked around the market and did some last minute shopping before we board the dive boat tomorrow. Next, we headed over to the lagoon, a big pool in the middle of a park, and walked around town and relaxed for a few hours before heading back to the motel. Everybody packed up his or her things for the dive boat, and then we all headed to the grocery store to start the cook-off. The boys were tasked with making the entrée and aside, and the girls had to make an appetizer and a dessert, each with a 40-dollar budget. Once we had all of our ingredients, we went back to the motel to get the cook-off going. The guys made home-made ravioli and garlic bread, and the girls made Caesar salad and vanilla Oreo cake with a layer of brownie and vanilla ice cream and strawberries on top. Overall today was a great day, but we’re excited to dive the Great Barrier Reef tomorrow!!

Note to parents and other avid blog readers: We are heading out to the Great Barrier Reef to dive for the next three days. We will likely not have internet access to post the blogs, so please be patient, and we will post them all when we get back to the mainland on Monday.
