Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
We woke up bright and early with a warm, comfortable morning ahead. We cooked up breakfast which included oatmeal and fruit after we filled our stomachs we took Shadow – the fastest dingy to the docks and hopped in a taxi and headed to The Copper Mines. When we arrived we had a stunning view of the ocean and the shore; we hiked down a stained copper hill to big beautiful rocks which were perfect for “hardcore-parkour” which consisted of watching Alec the monkey jump quickly from rock to rock in a swift motion. After some fun, we headed down to the beach, and we started picking up trash, and we learned about the seven types of plastic and how they affected the sea life and the ecosystem. After making a big difference, we hopped in a taxi and headed back to the docks where we called our dads and wished them a Happy Father’s Day. We piled onto the dinghies and motored back to the boats and headed out for turtle tagging. I was being towed by the dingy when I spotted the first turtle of the day and chased it for a while when Morgan swoops in and safely picks it up and puts it in the dingy. We rushed back to the boat to watch the staff members go through the turtle tagging process. After conducting accurate measurements of the turtle, we safely let it swim away. We named it Lefty because it was missing its back left fin and I found it upsetting but as Elliot said: “turtles are sturdy aminals.” All in all, today was a great day.
