Location: Galapagos Islands
I was pretty happy to be waking everyone up at 7:30, as opposed to the day before when Nicolette had to knock several times before we could drag ourselves out of bed. After having a quick breakfast at Hotel Castro at 8:00, we took a short 20 minute walk to Tortuga Bay, a beautiful beach just a short way from the hotel. Today was very different from all of the past few days because it was our first community service day. The park rangers assigned us jobs, which consisted of setting traps for the wasps, which were very abundant in the winding path that led to the beach, sweeping the paths, and cleaning up the rocks. Surprisingly, there was a sizable amount of trash wedged between the rocks at the beach, and cleaning up was hard work. We quickly finished the jobs, giving us time to have lunch and relax for the rest of the day at a serene cove near the beach. We played soccer, football, ultimate Frisbee, and snorkeled. Finally, we returned home and prepared to have dinner.
