Location: Central Valley Costa Rica

We started the morning with another buffet-style breakfast and headed off in the bus to “La Finca.” La Finca is an oasis of sorts for the people of La Carpio; a safe space to escape from the daily hardships these people face. It was once a farm where livestock was kept and now act as a rainforest haven with happy dogs and cats roaming the grounds bringing smiles to everyone’s faces. We split off into groups and divided the work amongst ourselves, some of us building bunk beds while others built backboards for basketball hoops or bringing barrels of dirt down to the river to make a makeshift “beach.” It was really hard to work on the mind and body, but we could all see that the work we were doing would impact the lives of others.
