Location: Sommer's Beach, Tortola
Today we had a “late” morning. We woke up at 8:00 am, and after we ate cereal and oatmeal, we started to sail to Trellis Bay to pick up local kids that were a part of an organization called YEP (Youth Empowerment Project). On the way, Ashley (one of our staff) dropped our deckie bucket in the water. At Trellis Bay, we would be bringing the kids back to our boat to sail to a near beach. At the beach, we picked up every miscellaneous piece of trash we could find to gather data for Ocean Conservancy. We, along with our local buddy, would bring every piece we found to one of the recorders who would tally down every piece of trash in its category. We cleaned up the entire beach and collected over 200 pieces of microplastic, several pieces in other categories and found a lot of bottle caps.
After we cleaned up as much of the beach as we could we headed back to the boat where we sailed back to Trellis Bay to drop the kids off. We then had shore time and got our phones. Around 4:00 PM, we went back to our catamaran and got ready for the beach barbecue. We headed to the beach where our boat and all of the other boats, including the ActionQuest program, would be. We ate food and made friends from other boats. After being there a few hours we were tired and got back on our dinghy to go back to our boat. Before bed, we got to watch a movie. We all gathered on the blue lagoon (my favorite sleeping spot) and watched The Hunger Games. After the long, exhilarating movie, we all got into our sleeping spots and went to bed.
