We began our day in the Duang Prateep Foundation (DPF) headquarters with the charity’s co-founder Ms.Prateep. After we were taken on a tour through the back alleys of the Bangkok slums, we learned the history behind the organization that has worked to improve the lives of the impoverished through education and support. Witnessing this way of life was a truly unforgettable experience; an experience perfectly summed up by Ms. Preteep, In the Land of Smiles, how can we have such problems?
After a three-hour bus ride to the province of Kanchanaburi, we arrived at the New Life Project Kanchanaburi Duang Prateep Foundation, a rehabilitation center for at-risk children and teenage girls. We were greeted by the smiling faces of the projects 4-6-year-old and learned a little about the history of this project. For the grand finale, the students performed a traditional Thai dance, followed by a full-blown dance party. The overwhelming happiness of the students gave no indication of their previous hardships, a valuable lesson for all.
